Running head: THE CRUEL CONCLUSION OF REALITY IN ‘ARABY’ AND ‘THE RASPBERRY BUSH’ The Cruel Conclusion of Reality in ‘Araby’ and ‘The Raspberry Bush’ October 8th 2013 ENGL 2P56 The Cruel Conclusion of Reality in ‘Araby’ and ‘The Raspberry Bush’ Every now and then, people get caught up in the hype of things; there is not a person on the planet immune to it. A person’s expectations of certain scenarios and the emotion put into objects and said situations can lead to disappointment, frustration, and feelings of loss. Reality comes creeping around the corner and ends up hitting the naà ¯ve individual with an unfortunate recognition. Humanity comes with a whole lot of emotions and those emotions†¦show more content†¦His idealized expectations disillusioned him and thus left him feeling great loss. It wasn’t the fact that he couldn’t triumph in his quest to impress the girl who lives in his neighborhood that made him feel this way, however, it was the fact that he had invested so much expectation and hope into this one pursuit that it destroyed his ability to ever look back at things the same way, it destroyed the innocent lens he had. Reality is a hard road to take and once it sets in, it canâ€⠄¢t be ignored. To go back to childish beliefs of adventure and magic is only teasing and a waste of time wrapping up in the unreal. Secondly, we look at another short story titled ‘The Raspberry Bush’ written by - a Canadian writer -Sheila Heti. It is a story of only a few hundred words, describing an old woman, coined as the one who never stopped smiling, who was let down when she found her beautiful raspberry bush shriveled and dead in her garden to the point where she spent nearly half an hour staring at it. She is completely devastated with this actuality. â€Å"She calls up her sister to tell her of the saddening news but her sister disregards the woman and the raspberry bush – she trumps her glum disclosure with even more sad happenings and unfortunate gossip in their family. She received a knock on the door shortly after getting off the phone with her sister. A deliveryman holding flowers stood on her doorstep, the little old lady was surprised and delighted
